Monster spuds and a mini-Library

Monster spuds and a mini-Library

It has been a busy fall and have not sat down long enough at the computer to do much in the way of posting. But I found a few photos I’d like to share as we head into Thanksgiving. In general, our potatoes were of marginal size this year, but we got enough for us to use while they’ll keep, and there were a couple hills with spuds of a size I’ve never seen before. The monster Evan is holding I think is a number of spuds that started growing together early in their development.

I think in some cases the produce got larger just because they were left in the ground too long, like this half-row of carrots I finally got around to digging up in later September.

One cool thing we got approved for this fall is to have a “mini-library” in our yard by the street. The Rochester library has a program to setup neighborhood mini-libraries in the area. We got to go to an evening where pizza was provided and we painted our little library box along with some other families. There are now over 100 of these in the Rochester area.

The kids had fun helping to paint it. Next year we hope to get some more detail on it – maybe a honeybee 🙂

The library and other donators actually gave us a box of books to get the library primed. So, here it is at the bottom of our yard. Stop by some time, pick up a book, and leave one for others to enjoy.
